The living room and dining room areas of this house had stark white walls. The fireplace in the living room had a small ornate oak mantel that did not work for the size of the wall. I took out the mantel and replaced it with a simple black shelf so I could integrate it with the book cases and make it all look like it was built in. I changed the paint color to Sierra Redwood from Sherwin Williams, keeping the ceiling white in order to provide a sense of depth without making the room seem smaller. I also painted the inset area near the front windows, leaving the surrounding area white.
